The Sammy D Foundation Harm Prevention activities
As individuals and groups we make decisions that affect the well being and safety of
ourselves and the community. The Sammy D programs offer some simple advice which equips people
of all ages with ways to prevent harm.
The principle objective of the foundation is the prevention of harm specifically from physical,
emotional and substance abuse. The primary target group of the foundation is young people aged between
8 and 24 who are at greatest risk of being perpetrators or victims of this abuse.
The foundation is involved in the development and implementation of three core harm prevention
activities: Sammy D Impact Presentations, Sammy D Connect - Encourage, Motivate, Reward and Party Wise.
These activities focus on the core objectives of the foundation, specifically the prevention of physical,
emotional and substance abuse by youth with the engagement of at-risk young people and the uniting
of families being paramount to its success.

Sammy D Impact
Sharing our story
We conduct presentations to young people in schools and community groups, using the incident that
took the life of Sam Davis as a real example, and raise awareness of the impact of risky behaviours,
poor choices and situations which are precursors to violence including parties. Sessions are interactive
and empowering. The focus of the presentations is harm prevention in general with an emphasis on crime
prevention and community safety.More.........

Connect
Encourage, Motivate, Reward
The Connect program supports research that shows involvement in well-structured activities can have positive developmental and
social impact, reduce incidence of drug and alcohol addiction and improve community engagement.
Young at risk people will be connected to community organisations, sporting clubs and programs which promote engagement and positive
life choices. These young people will be provided with mentoring, social and financial support for the duration of the program with
impact followed up in the year following the involvement. It may be that participants require support for longer than the funding
period and the foundation is committed to providing this.

Partywise
Safe Party Strategies
The party culture of our young people has a different feel to that of the historical party culture or that of adults.
There is an emphasis on large numbers attending. The technology of mobile phones and internet social sites enables this process but also makes it extremely
dangerous and difficult to limit attendance to known groups of friends.
The foundation will present guidelines that will help people to hold safer parties. These guidelines are currently being produced by a working party
which was created following the events that lead to the death of Sam Davis and what was learnt from that night.
