Sammy D News October - December 2011 DREAM IT (Dance Representing Expression Awareness and Mentoring  through Inclusive Transition)  Our new and exciting school based program DREAM IT has  wrapped up for the year with fantastic results. The DREAM  IT Crew visited 7 schools (some multiple times) and worked  with over 2000 Primary School students and staff. The  Crew also performed alongside Guidance Crew in Rundle  Mall as part of the South Australian National Youth  Mentoring Week Launch. Both Crews were a highlight of the  day, click here to see videos of these performances.  The evaluation by members of DREAM IT revealed that  overall the program was received positively by all  participants; 100% of the DREAM IT students surveyed  would recommend the DREAM IT program to other students.  100% of the students also agreed that the DREAM IT  program will achieve its goal of helping new students settle  into Parafield Gardens High School (PGHS) quickly.   DREAM IT members were asked if they shared what they  had learnt with family and friends; 100% said yes:  "I have told my family.. How good it feels when you see the  younger students so happy and excited to learn the dance  ... I've learnt that it's important to help people.." - DREAM  IT Member "I have told them that I dance to help younger kids by  expressing themselves by dance and not anger." - DREAM IT  Member  When asked what the students enjoyed most about the  DREAM IT program most participants highlighted the family  nature of the group and the enjoyment they received  through meeting new people and strengthening friendship  bonds:  "I enjoyed everything about the dream it program..  meeting all these people and forming all these friendships  with all these amazing people, including the GUIdance  crew, all the students from the primary schools and Mr.  George and all the other people that help all of this  happen." - DREAM IT MEMBER  We would like to thank PGHS Middle School Assistant  Principle and Sammy D Foundation board member Mike  George for his continued commitment and support of this  program: "The opportunity to watch young people build  relationships and add value to the lives of other young  people, using dance as the vehicle, has been fantastic.  Forty people from the SDF, Parafield Gardens HS and the  GUI Dance Crew have come together and reached out,  through Sam's message, to make an imprint in the hearts  and minds of in excess of 2000 primary school students  and staff in our 7 feeder schools - awesome!!"  We are very pleased with the results from the evaluations  and are looking forward to continuing our work with PGHS,  DREAM IT Crew and Guidance Crew on this program in the  New Year.
