A harm minimisation approach to alcohol and drug education is the key to providing strategies on keeping celebrations safe, full of happy memories and not tragedy.  Risks, responsibilities, legalities and what to do in emergency situations are all explored. SA Police and SA Ambulance Service are program partners.  Programs are delivered in:

  • Schools
  • Parent and Teen forums
  • Community Organisations and Sporting Clubs
  • Public Awareness Campaigns

97% of participants felt better equipped to hold a safer party after attending a Party Wise forum.

School-based

Following the delivery of an Impact Presentation, information on alcohol and other drugs in a harm minimisation context is provided.  The attendees will also explore risks, responsibilities, legalities, and what to do in emergency situations.  In workshop groups, attendees will unpack strategically structured scenarios and take ownership of solutions. This program is designed to target year 9s and above.

Parent and Teen Forums

These forums involve parents, caregivers and teenagers being presented with skill based information regarding holding a safe party. This includes information that explores risks, responsibilities, legalities, harm minimization strategies, and what to do in emergency situations. Party Wise Forums are a joint venture in which information is presented by Sammy D Foundation, and South Australian Ambulance Services also presenting on selected prearranged occasions. These are hosted by schools or private businesses and can be programed to coincide with the holding of School Formals with a focus on this and the hosting of "After Parties" or private parties in general.

Community Organisations and Sporting Clubs

Hosted in the community or sporting setting these forums can be attended by whole clubs including parents, senior players and officials.  Police and Ambulance Services also present on selected prearranged occasions. Party Wise Forums are a great way to encourage responsible service of alcohol in the club setting as well as building a sense of community and ownership of solutions to contemporary social issues.

Public Awareness Campaigns

The Foundation uses a number of strategies in its battle to curb alcohol and other drug related violence. The Program is primarily focused on young people, alcohol and violence, with the aim of preventing crime and victimisation within entertainment settings. The mobile Blog-A-Van visits entertainment settings and other public spaces where young people frequent as a way of providing face to face opportunities to educate as well as facilitating engagement via recording of video blogs!

The Foundation also proactively uses all forms of media including social media and a smart phone application to initiate and respond to contemporary issues related to its core business.
