SAM DAVIS
 10/09/1990 - 4/05/2008

On Sunday May 4th 2008 17 yr old Sam Davis' life was tragically cut short. Sam was a young person who had made a huge impact on many others. He had many notable achievements but none more than his talent, passion for sport & ability to make friends wherever he went.  Sam was loved by everyone that knew him (as 1700 people at his funeral will attest to). He was a great mate and fiercely loyal to family and friends. From a very early age we were told he would stick up for anyone who was being bullied at school and he carried this on throughout the rest of his much too short life.

To Sam’s mates he was annoyingly good at everything physical. He’d never played rugby 7s til last year and we had people all over the place telling us he was a rare talent with one of the best goose steps (he would have only picked that up by copying it) and he was asked to play it all the time.  His friends tell me he would even dominate at carpet bowls.

Sam played state soccer at an early age and made various representative sides in the sport. He was lucky enough to play in 4 cup finals at Hindmarsh Stadium he came away with 1 win from the 4 appearances. Sam fully realised the value of playing at such a fantastic venue and also knew how lucky he was to be given such an opportunity.

Playing Indoor and Outdoor cricket for his much loved Morphett Vale Sharks was something Sam did from the age of 6. Playing Super League at the age of 14 and winning grand finals with the under 18 Indoor Cricket Team and Under 21 Indoor Netball Team. Excelling in the junior ranks of the ICC Sharks Outdoor Cricket Club under 15 team scoring 370 runs for the season including a 102 not out, which is still a record. When he was 16 he played A grade with the bowling figures of 5 for 12 in one game.

Sam played just about every sport in his 17 years before finding his one true love Aussie Rules Football. As a 15 year old, after playing under 19s at Cumberland United soccer club, he switched codes to have a season with his mates playing at Happy Valley Football Club. Playing just 10 games in the under 16s that year he came runner up in the best and fairest and made the Southern Under 16 team of the year. South Adelaide Football Club saw his potential and picked him up the very next season starting in the under 17s and finishing up in the under 19s in his 1st season with the Panthers.

Sam squeezed so much into his 17 years from Bungee jumping in Bali to snorkelling in the South Pacific and parasailing in Thailand during many family holidays.  Sam was always busy.  He walked earlier than most.  Riding his bike like a pro demanding the removal of his trainer wheels before the age of 2. Forever the entertainer. It’s almost like he knew he had only a short time to give to us and had to make the most of it.

Sam to us was giving with his personality, beautiful smile, crazy character and his love of life.  We had no decision to make when faced with organ donation.  It was his intention and we knew that. Sam was blessed with the perfect body and we had to make sure that him being taken from us wasn’t all for nothing.

He lives forever because of this gift.
