Statement – Death of Cassius Turvey

Warning: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander readers are advised that the following statement contains the name of a person who has now passed.

Today, Cassius Turvey’s family will be farewelling their young man, gone too soon due to a senseless and violent assault.

We are heartbroken for Cassius’s family, friends, and the broader communities he was actively involved in.

As an organisation that was formed following the death of a loved one due to violence, we understand your loss. We walk together with you on your difficult journey as you come to terms with a world without Cassius.

What we will never understand is why someone would choose to target a child in this way.

Every child has the right to live a life free of violence.

Every child has the right to live free from discrimination.

Every child.

Violence is never the answer and violence against children is especially reprehensible.

Just as violence and racism are learnt, they can be unlearnt. We will continue to educate young people about the impacts and consequences of their actions, empowering them to build a world free from violence.
