Sammy D Foundation announced as the first charity partner for Adelaide’s recycling business, Direct Collect.

The Sammy D Foundation is excited to announce a new charity partnership with enterprising Adelaide business, Direct Collect.

Direct Collect is streamlining recycling across Adelaide, providing free bins to homes and businesses to fill with 10¢ refundable bottles, cans & containers. Once filled, the bins are collected and homeowners and businesses have can chose from a plan that suits them, or can nominate for the proceeds to directly benefit the Sammy D Foundation.

The Sammy D Foundation is encouraging all South Australian’s to take up the scheme with Direct Collect and help the Foundation continue its work in the community by deciding to donate the money from the refunded cans and bottle to the Foundation. The scheme helps home owners and businesses not only be more sustainable and easily recycle their household bottles, cans and containers, but also assist the Sammy D Foundation in provide its life changing programs across South Australia.

CEO of Sammy D Foundation Brigid Koenig says it is extremely exciting to begin this new venture with Direct Collect.

“By teaming up with Direct Collect this opens up a whole new way for people to donate to Sammy D by utilising the cans and bottles they have, to provide a real difference for us and the work we do, so we can’t wait to see the results of this collaboration”

Project manager for Direct Collect, Harry DeRuiter, echoes Koenig’s sentiments

“We’ve been admirers of the work Sammy D foundation does in the community and when it became apparent that our new business could contribute to their cause we jumped at the chance.

Our message is if you’re just throwing the cans away, you’re essentially putting money in the bin, and now with something you’d usually throw away you can put it towards an incredibly important cause!”

MasterPlan Director, Michael Richardson comments on being the first business to sign up to Direct Collect: “Direct Collect provides a fantastic opportunity to ensure that our beverage containers are recycled in the most efficient manner possible and also to direct additional funding to the SammyD foundation. This is a fantastic initiative that delivers benefits to every party involved.”

MasterPlan, who have 20 staff in their Adelaide CBD office, generate empty bottles and cans from staff and client drinks. A typical week sees 40-60 containers generated by the office which currently go into the kerbside recycling bin, or sometimes mistakenly into general waste, potentially meaning they end up in landfill.
