Response to on-field altercation

Response to on-field altercation

In response to the news that 17-year old footballer Henry Nau is in a coma following an on-pitch altercation, the Sammy D Foundation Founder Neil Davis would like to issue the following statement:

“We were shocked to hear about yesterday’s violent incident during what should have been a fun, enjoyable sporting occasion for young people, which has left a 17-year old young man - Henry Nau - in an induced coma.

Our thoughts are with Henry’s family, friends and team-mates.

Incidents such as this highlight the importance of the work the Sammy D Foundation do educating junior players about the potential serious impact of their actions. Violence is never an appropriate response. One punch can kill.

Sadly, my family know more than most that violent actions can and do have serious repercussions that can lead to a lifetime of regret and pain.

There is no room for violence on or off the field. All players, umpires and spectators have the right to live their lives free of violence and to feel safe both on the pitch and in their community."
