16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
This month the Sammy D Foundation had the privilege of attending Christies Beach High School to support the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in the Onkaparinga region. This initiative aims to raise awareness of domestic and family violence and advocate for change.
The students enjoyed an extended lunch break, where they participated in engaging activities centered around raising awareness and chatted with our team about the importance of violence prevention.
Christies Beach High School shares this commitment to addressing violence. Earlier this year, The Sammy D Foundation delivered three Violence Prevention programs at the school. In Term 2, we also conducted our 8-week What’s The Story? program, which engages young men in meaningful conversations about masculinity, fairness, justice, power, equality, violence, and relationships. This program encourages participants to reflect on how these themes shape their lives and aspirations.
It was fantastic to connect with students and staff at this significant event, discussing our purpose and programs. The 16 Days of Activism is a United Nations initiative running from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10 (International Human Rights Day). This campaign emphasizes that violence against women is not only a gender issue but fundamentally a human rights issue.
